Inspired entirely by the life and mythos of actor Dennis Hopper, Mike Scott and The Waterboys created this expansive album as tribute to one of American popular cultures most compelling public figures. While drawn in by his work in films, Scott also learned of Hoppers talent as a photographer and was moved by the way Hopper captured how he saw the world. Deeply conceptual, this album of all original songs brings together high-profile featured artists like Bruce Springsteen, Fiona Apple, and Steve Earle to musically weave through Hoppers life, including a song for each of Hoppers wives.

Dennis was my brother-in-law for 25 years. My ex-husband (Dennis' brother David), myself and our children lived with Dennis in Taos for a couple of years. Reading the lyrics brought back memories of our time with Dennis. Some of the memories were difficult and some were pleasant. He could be an almost normal person when interacting with me and my daughters. However, there were times that we had to endure his demons.

Mike Scott never disappoints. Always following his muse, this one being the actor, photographer and counterculture icon, Dennis Hopper. The Waterboys have put together an album that is creative and artistic in its approach and execution. This is more than an album on the life of Dennis Hopper. It is a journey through time from the late 50s through the 60s, 70s and beyond. This is a full band effort, with contributions and song writing credits from the other members of The Waterboys. This has to be listened to from beginning to end to be fully appreciated.
