Originally released April 2, 2025.
Inspired by the life and mythos of actor Dennis Hopper, Mike Scott and The Waterboys created an expansive tribute album to one of American popular culture’s most compelling figures. Drawn first to Hopper’s films, Scott also discovered Hopper’s talent as a photographer and was moved by the way he captured the world he saw. This deeply conceptual set of original songs features high-profile guests—including Bruce Springsteen, Fiona Apple, and Steve Earle—and even includes a song for each of Hopper’s wives. The album was self-produced at Playloud Studio.

It’s a rockin’ road trip through the counter-culture as told through the life and times of Dennis Hopper. There are psychedelic, smooth and stylish sounds with vibes emanating from Kerouac to Bacharach.

How to continue to be great as an artist? You evolve your sound over the years, filtering in new experiences and sounds. The Waterboys have always been adept at writing a great tune, but what they've been able to do in their "old" age is meld all the flavors life has thrown at them into an irresistible tasty meal. It's no easy feat to understand who you are and where you've been and then to continue to be open to adding things to your pallet. Cheers to the Waterboys on another great collection of songs.
